Photo of the Day - May 9-13

This week was all about the outdoors.  It was a beautiful week - summer is just around the corner. I can't wait to get out with my camera in the sunshine!  This week consisted of long lazy evening walks, gardening and some plain old sitting on the patio.

Sunshine

I really love taking photos at, or just before sunset.  Not only is the light amazing, but it creates an gorgeous mood.

Fence Post

This shot was also taken at sunset.  I just love old, twisty things.  What could be better than an old post and wire.

Daffodils

I was lucky to shoot a couple of these before Maria got her hands on them and picked them.  I've had fresh daffodils in the dining room since last week.  A new one everyday.

One of my favourites. Stay tuned for more once the tiny white blooms arrive.

Another beauty waiting to open up.  I'm just loving this time of year (minus the allergies).

Photo of the Day - March 28 to May 5

Yikes...am I ever behind on this...notice the dates.  I can't believe I haven't posted about photo of the day since March.  So you are in for a treat today...lots to catch up on.  I was actually a bit embarrassed to even start this series again since it had been so long.  Here we go.

Sunny Breakfast
I decided to dedicate this week to Maria.  She's growing up really fast and everyday she is doing something new.  Her latest - getting out of bed (after being tucked in) and putting on a warmer pair of pants because she was cold - then tucking herself back in.  It makes me realize how quickly it is/will go.

Another thing to put on Maria's "I can do it by myself list".

Brushing her hair

She loves brushing her hair.  After any bath or shower she insists on it.  And she will often need to fix her hair at some point during the day.

Peek-a-boo

Although the plan was to shoot Maria for the entire week, I couldn't pass this up.  William playing with his friend Thomas.  Thomas is in this amazing house (I'd call it more of a mansion) that was built out of boxes by his dad.  There is even a chimney!

Smooch

I love getting my photo taken - with the kids.  Otherwise, I prefer to be on the other side of the camera.  A little tickle and a little kiss...she can hardly stand it.

Pretzels

One of my favourite snacks.  They never last long.  And I was told it was mean to post this photo during lent.  So sorry to all you who had given up chocolate.

Spring!

Yes - that is an exclamation point.  How could I resist after a long, cold winter.  After shooting and posting this picture, I decided that this would be my canvas.  It is currently on display at The Robin's Nest in Elmira.

Maria

Whenever I can, I try to get shots of the kids. Sometimes they are reluctant and others they love the camera.  This was one of those great times!

Laundry Day

You've gotta love the smell after laundry has been hung out on the line! Unless you are like my neighbour, who hangs her laundry out year round, it's the signal that summer is just around the corner.

William

William is a little turkey.  He is showing his sly self in this picture.  A little devious, a little happy and a lot cute (but I guess every mother would say that).

Wow...glad that I got that done.  It has been sitting on my to do list for some time.  Can't wait to get back on track and work on one week at a time again.  Hope you enjoyed them!

Photo of the Day - March 21-25

This week I wandered around and just found things to shoot.  Nothing too inspired or special...just stuff.  Even still, I hope you enjoy my images.  And no you didn't miss the past 2 weeks photo of the day blog...I did.

Photo of the Day - February 28-March 4

So we have this dog.  A big dog.  A big, lazy dog.  Okay, so only mostly lazy...he really does loves being active...really. Loves to run around outdoors.  Loves to chase the kids around.  Loves to go for walks.  But it is becoming apparent that he is entering old age.  His initial response to moving from the couch - "Humph" - gives him away.  The couch is his favourite spot.  I've come to realize that he will move for the right reason.  Never, of course when I want to enjoy a few lazy moments myself in his spot, but for food.  He is the most attentive animal during snack or meal times.  He waits: next to the high chair, nose up, anticipating a fallen morsel of food.

I wasn't planning on focusing this week on Poncho and after Tuesday I realized that it was going to be almost impossible to shoot him doing anothing other than sleeping on the couch.  For that reason I decided to go back a few years and find some of my favourite shots of Ponch, Poncho Libre, Nacho, Pinchy and Paaancho.

Zzzzzz

Again...on the couch.  I really did shoot this the next day.  As Joe pointed out "good luck getting a shot of him doing anything else".

March 2, 2011
Poncho

I was getting a snack for the kids and I realized that Poncho was no longer enjoying dream land (As I secretly wished to be), he was alert.  I grabbed the camera.  He really didn't move from this spot as he waited for William to abandon an apple piece.

March 3, 2011
Lake
This shot was taken in 2006 when we were spending the weekend with friends at their cottage.  Poncho was just 1 year old, much thinner and much more active.  The previous day he got a little too friendly with some bees.

March 4, 2011
Puppy

This was the day we brought Poncho home.  He was a wedding gift that Joe and I gave each other.  It seems like yesterday...it seems like a century ago.

Photo of the Day - February 21-25

When baking, follow directions.  When cooking, go by your own taste.  ~Laiko Bahrs

I found myself stuck in the kitchen most of the week.  So why not photograph it.  I guess on Wednesday I was too busy cooking to get out my camera, and I didn't even realize it until the next day.  Oops.  Please forgive me.

February 21, 2011
Pots
I recently hung a pot rack over my stove.  It is always changing, and never looks quite the same each day.  I like that.
 February 22, 2011
Coffee

OK so if you read my coffee house blog, you'd know that I don't make coffee or drink it -but I can photograph it.

February 24, 2011
Sink

I don't know about you, but there is an endless amount of dishes to wash in my house.  I like to polish the sink when I'm done.  If I was trying to seem neat and tidy, I'd would have included the polished version on Thursday, but the texture in this shot was far more interesting.

Muffin Tin

I really like to bake and I really like repetition in photography...voila...muffin tin.

PINK

In honour of Valentine's Day on Monday, I decided to shoot things that were pink...not necessarily romantic (see water bottle), but pink.  And with a three year old girl in the house, there are no shortage of pink things.

February 14, 2011
Beads

My daughters play beads and her newest "princess" dress.  I absolutely love this picture.  It's romantic.

February 15, 2011
Flowers

As a I said on facebook "Although I think you should celebrate LOVE everyday, I was happy to get flowers from Joe yesterday".

February 16, 2011
Boots

Maria playing in the driveway.  She was having a blast "skating" around on the ice.

Water bottle

Something pink in my kitchen.  Nothing too exciting.

February 18, 2011
Boots 2

I know that I already shot Maria and her boots...but how could I pass this up.  She was having soooo much fun splashing around.  I couldn't choose just one.

Photo of the Day - February 7-11

I've been hibernating this winter.  It has been cold.  And by cold - I mean C-O-L-D.  This week I decided to embrace the snow, ice and sub-zero temperatures and explore what winter has to offer.  Here are the results.

 February 7, 2011
A winter hike

Too bad William was strapped to my back to get in this photo.  It's always fun going for a hike - especially when the snow is knee deep.

February 8, 2011
Window

This is the stained glass in my front door window.  The blue/purple light made for an interesting picture.  And I felt it fit in this week's "winter" theme.

February 9, 2011
Icicles at night

After an evening walk with Poncho (our 100lb Chocolate lab), I saw these hanging from my garage.  The patio lights cast an interesting glow...had to add it to this weeks collection.

February 10, 2011
My Garden

This is the scene of my "edible" garden...not so edible this time of year, unless you eat snow.

February 11, 2011
Snow

What more can I say?

Photo of the Day - January 31 -February 4

This week's photos were much easier to find then last week.  Except for Wednesday, when I couldn't resist this shot of Maria, I went in search of everyday things that I could shoot in an unconventional way.  Here are the results

January 31, 2011
My crystal chandelier

I love this fixture.  For years it hung without the crystals attached.  It was filthy when we first moved in and I took them all off so I could clean them.  2 years later, I finally got them all sparkling and love how it looks.

February 1, 2011
Fireplace tools

I love a good wood-burning fire.  This was one of the first things we purchased when we bought our home.
February 2, 2011
Snow Day

What does a 3 year old do when we get over a foot of snow...?

February 3, 2011
Tea cup

This is just one of the pieces of the set which I got from my Grandmother.  It is on display in my kitchen.

February 4, 2011
Pineapple

Who doesn't love a sweet pineapple?

Photo of the Day - January 24-28

When I first started this "assignment" I thought it would be easy.  Snap a photo each day. Post it on facebook. Write about it.  Easy!?  Not so much.  I don't want to just snap a photo, I want to be inspired to take that photo in the first place.   My kids are easy "go-to" subjects but I wanted to find something else. Something that I consider beautiful -or can make beautiful with my camera. I'm looking for inspiration in everyday things or everyday moments.

Here are this week's images.

January 24, 2011
Maria's 3rd Birthday Cake

Joe has always made the kids' cakes for them.  He does an amazing job - right down to the home-made fondant icing (which was delicious too).  He spends hours on them and the reaction is worth it!  When Maria woke up from her nap to find her finished cake she asked Joe if she could just sit and look at it for a bit.  She was at the table for almost 30 minutes.

January 25, 2011
My Desk - The tidiest part

I've never really been a tidy worker.  It's just the way I am.  I need to spread out, make scribble notes and stack papers.  This portion of my desk is the only part where you can actually see the desk - the rest is currently covered in... stuff.

January 26, 2011
Maria swinging at the farm

Last year we got a trailer where we could spend sometime in the great outdoors with our kids.  It's a place where Joe spent most of his childhood summers.  This photo was taken this past summer while Maria spun around on the ... I don't even know what it is called.  This photo sort of breaks the rules of my "photo of the day" since I didn't actually take it on the 26th...but the past few days have been FREEZING and it made me feel warm - so there - rule broken!

January 27, 2011
William in his crib - from the outside, looking in

Joe got this amazing shot of William.  I was feeling especially uninspired yesterday when I set out to complete my assignment.  Let's blame it on all the accounting I've been doing lately.  Anyway, when William first wakes up from his nap, he likes to play in his crib and roll around a bit - he thinks it's funny and so do we.  Look how proud he is of himself.

January 28, 2011
William - Santa makes a surprise visit

William is the messiest 1 year old eater ever.  He is known in the family for being especially careless with his cuisine. Maybe because he generally feeds himself, maybe because he's one, or maybe, unfortunately this is the "tidy" trait he gets from me.  But he has fun and that's important to me.  So he wore his breakfast this morning, I couldn't resist posting it.

Photo of the Day - January 17-21, 2011

I recently decided that I need to take out my camera for more than just client shoots, weddings and snapshots of my kids.  I needed to get back to shooting for myself.  My goal is to practice some new skills and pick up my camera everyday.  And so was born "Photo of the day".  Here are my photos for this week along with the stories that go along with them.
