New Beginnings

My life has recently been turned upside down. I knew it was coming, but I still feel like I'm standing on my head. Last Friday, my beautiful son was born. He was due on October 31st, and didn't make his appearance until 11 days later - the same as my first two. I cursed Joe when he suggested that an 11/11/11 birthday would be cool...and easy to remember. But as that day approached, I secretly hoped for it too. Here are a few pics of my 5 day old little monkey!

You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving. ~Author Unknown

The weather is getting colder, the leaves are dropping from the trees, and the fall season is upon us.It's time to (dare I say it) start thinking about the holidays.

As a photographer, I get a ton of inquiries about holiday photos.  Since baby 3 is set to arrive any day now, I'd like to encourage you to think about gift certificates.  They are a wonderful idea for parents, grandparents and even your own little diva princess!  They can be purchased in any denomination, for any purpose (prints, photo sessions, wedding albums or more).  They come beautifully displayed and ready to give!

For the hard to buy for - they are perfect.

Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn't music. ~William Stafford

I've decided to enter another shot into the I Faces Photo challenge.  The theme is "Let them be little" and Since I photograph a lot of children, I have a lot to choose from.  This picture was taken yesterday afternoon.

Happiness held is the seed; happiness shared is the flower. ~Author Unknown

We arrived to find a beautiful golden sunset highlighting the features of my latest shoot...farmers' fields, a small rustic barn and J drove up with a trunk full of hay bales. It was better than anything I could have hoped for. When I visit a client's home for the first time, I never know what to expect and this location fully exceeded my expectations.

Even though baby G hadn't had much of a nap, she was in great spirits and ready to go. E was full of energy and I knew he may be shy, so I took some time with him. He got comfortable really quickly. Having a 3 and a half year old of my own means that I can relate to toddlers quite easily (at least I like to think so). B looked stunning. It was a lovely shoot.

I have to say a big thank you, to my friend, neighbour and assistant, Madi Schaefer for helping me out on this shoot!  Photo credits to her also.

J and B, your family is beautiful and wonderful and so photogenic. It was a pleasure meeting you and thank you for making it so easy! Hope you enjoy a few of my favourites.

"A moment in my tummy... a lifetime in my heart."

Rebecca and Chris were our neighbours when we were in University.  Now we are all grown up (at least gotten older), and are having kids of our own.  I was super excited when Rebecca contacted me about my "Watch me grow -tummy" package.  This was one of my last photo sessions before I have my 3rd next month and it would be a great chance to catch up.

We met in Elora and took some amazing pictures - thank goodness the rain held off.  In fact I had literally gotten into my car at the end of the shoot and the rain began!

Rebecca and Chris - I wish you all the best in your new adventure.  Can't wait to meet the little hockey star!  Please enjoy a few of my favourites!

Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn't music. ~William Stafford

B looked amazing for a mom of a 16 month old and 6 week old.  But then again, she always does.  I visited their home to take some pictures of Baby W, but managed to get some gems of little M and their beautiful yellow lab.  Their house had some really gorgeous window light from their back door and it made for a relatively easy set up.  A big thanks to J for helping me to re-arrange some furniture...ok most of the furniture.

J and B, your daughters are delightful and beautiful like their mama.  I really hope W is allowing you some more sleep and you are enjoying your girls!  Here are a few of my faves from our photo session.

“It is better to play than do nothing” Confucius

Another beautiful day and another beautiful morning spent with my family.  Park, picnic (or PINK-nic as Maria calls it), and a few rides.  Enjoy

Where did you come from, baby dear? Out of the Everywhere and into here. ~George MacDonald, At the Back of the North Wind

The Glauser's home was warm and inviting.  And a beautiful place to photograph baby E.  Mom and Dad were relaxed and had lots of ideas - which I love.  As a photographer, I want to create the images you've dreamed about.  Along with a few you didn't even know you wanted.

Natasha and Simon, I had such a wonderful time with you and your new family.  I hope you are enjoying every moment - and getting some sleep along the way.  E is adorable! Please enjoy a few of my favourites from our photo session.

Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

To all my brides.  This is how I strive to make you beautiful.  It's something I've always done, but seeing a true STAR say it out loud makes me feel legit!  And for my grooms...I'll make you look cool!  Promise.  How could you not with your beautiful bride on your arm?

Thanks for taking the time to watch this amazing photographer!  I only hope to be as successful as Jasmine Star.

Retro Shoot: July 17, 2010
Engagement Session

Renee and I had spoken via email and in person several times.  She was nervous about the wedding photos and the engagement shoot as her and Neil "always look so awkward in photos".  Shocked, I looked at her - and I'm not shy to say - she is one of the most beautiful people I've ever seen.  I assured her they would not look awkward or weird or uncomfortable.

We went to a local park for their shoot - simple and relaxed - but it was hot.  As a joke, I suggested they cool off in the creek.  They laughed.  It wasn't until the end of the shoot that Renee turned to Neil and said - "let's do it.  Let's get in the water".  I thought it would make for some amazing shots as the sun was starting to set.  Reluctantly, Neil agreed, rolled up his khaki white pants and stepped into the water.  I loved it!  I'm always up for something fun, different and crazy.

Renee and Neil, you looked nothing but amazing during this shoot and on your wedding day!  Almost one year ago you married your best friend and Joe and I are so happy we could be a part of it!

Families are like fudge - mostly sweet with a few nuts. ~Author Unknown

I love my family - my brother, sisters and parents.  I'm happy to report that we are all very close.  But my family is constantly changing and growing.  Each year my mom asks (so kindly) if I will take a family photo.  It isn't easy.  It involves a tripod some running and a lot of luck.  With 4 - oops now 5 (soon to be 6) young grandchildren, we tend to get a lot of pictures that don't quite cut it.  In fact, most of them involve someone not looking at the camera.  I've had to cut and paste a few heads.

Please enjoy a few of our shots from last year.

A newborn baby has only three demands. They are warmth in the arms of its mother, food from her breasts, and security in the knowledge of her presence. Breastfeeding satisfies all three. ~Grantly Dick-Read

I entered Cindy's home, with my arms full of gear to shoot her 2 week old daughter J.  As she finished getting ready, I set up.  Baby J was getting hungry.  Cindy fed her while I waited.  This happens often during infant and baby shoots and I am prepared to wait and chat with the new mom, or keep busy in another room if mom is more comfortable.  Baby J fed and fed and fed.  Then we tried to shoot...but she was still hungry.  So she fed and fed and fed.  Cindy and I had a great conversation and I really enjoyed the relaxed environment.  Since we were losing light in the living room where I had set up, we moved to the front porch and front lawn. We got some amazing shots.

Cindy, it was a pleasure to spend time with you and your beautiful daughter.  She is amazing and adorable.
Here are a few of my faves.
